There is now less than 100 days left until the celebration of 100 years of Stanislaus County Fair family fun! Our office is already buzzing with pre-Fair excitement!
“Motownphilly’s back again” when Boyz II Men brings their R&B sound to this year’s Fair. The best-selling R&B group of all time will perform on Saturday, July 16 on the Budweiser Variety Free Stage at 8:30 p.m. and I will definitely be there!
We also recently announced that Grammy winning ‘70’s group, America, will be added to our concert lineup! The group will appear on the Budweiser Variety Free Stage at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 17. I know I’ll be humming their first #1 single, “A Horse With No Name” from now until Fair!
We are getting super excited for the time capsule event coming up this Saturday, April 16. A piece of Stanislaus County Fair history is hoping to make an appearance when a rumored time capsule will potentially be unearthed at the fairgrounds’ historic arch gate. It will be a fun way to celebrate a historic milestone like our centennial!
Past and present members of the local community are invited to attend the Stanislaus County Fair’s time capsule unveiling event Saturday, April 16 at 10 a.m. The event will take place at the fairgrounds’ historic arch gate on North Broadway Avenue, between Canal and Front Street in Turlock.
Local lore says there may be something hidden in the pillars of Stanislaus County fairgrounds’ historic arch gate, placed by the construction workers and Legion members – however, many community members think otherwise. The capsule is believed to have been buried 82 years ago on April 16, 1929 during the dedication of the just-built arch gate. While researching our history of the century-old fair, a publication from the Turlock Historical Society, the Turlock Pioneer, from 1999 was found, mentioning a time capsule placed behind one of the steel Legion and Auxiliary shields that adorn the pillars, though no one seems to know for sure which one.
Come to the Fairgrounds April 16 at 10 a.m. to find the truth behind the mystery!
See you at the Fair!
Diane
