Stanislaus County Fair
names new publicity director
Turlock--“The
Stanislaus County Fair board and staff is proud to
welcome Pennie Rorex to the Stanislaus County Fair team
as publicity director,” Tony Leo, chief executive
officer, announced today.
Rorex
has worked in public relations in the Turlock community
for the past eight years, with the past three years as a
consultant to corporate clients.
Her work in public relations follows five years
in the event planning and management business, where she
coordinated over 200 events including a major festival
whose “home” was at the Stanislaus County Fair
grounds.
In
the early 1990’s, Rorex was contracted by the Turlock
Chamber of Commerce to plan and manage year one and two
of the Turlock Poultry and Dairy Festival.
The festival, which the Chamber retired years
later, attracted over 10,000 visitors in its inaugural
year.
As
a life-long resident of Stanislaus County, Rorex grew up
attending the fair every year. In addition to her
extensive experience in public relations, she is
extremely knowledgeable of the county fair facilities.
“Pennie spent weeks and weeks on the Stanislaus
County Fair grounds during the 1990’s when she managed
the Poultry and Dairy Festival.
For her, this is like homecoming,” said Ray
Souza. Souza
is the president of the Stanislaus County Fair Board and
was a founding member of the Turlock Poultry and Dairy
Festival committee.
In addition to
the Stanislaus County Fair, Rorex’s major clients
include Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.
Rorex
and her husband, Allen, make their home in Turlock.
Rorex replaces Will Keener who retired from the
Stanislaus County Fair this month for health reasons.
The
Stanislaus County Fair is now in its 91st
year. The 2002 fair will open on Friday, July 26
for a 10-day run. The
theme of this year’s fair is “Through the Eyes of a
Child.”
Last year, a record-number of family members enjoyed the
fair as attendance topped 215,000 visitors. Rorex
joins a team of community board members and staff who
are already busy planning for the July opening.
