Students invited to VIP tours of the Stanislaus County Fair!

Turlock— Teachers and students are invited to get a close-up look at the highlights of the Stanislaus County Fair.

For 13 years the Stanislaus County Fair has opened its gates during non-fair hours to escort schoolchildren on guided tours of the Fair.  Classes from all over Stanislaus County are invited to participate in the free school tours.

School tours are slated for Monday, July 29; Tuesday July 30; Thursday, August 1; and Friday, August 2.  The first tour begins at 9:00 a.m. with tours departing every 10 minutes thereafter, concluding at 11:30 a.m. daily. Each tour lasts approximately 90 minutes.

Stanislaus County Fair school tours take students through the following areas:

·         Arts and Crafts Building: Lego displays; missions built by students; woodworking projects and more

·         Horticulture Building: Homemade scarecrows, giant vegetables and more

·         FFA and 4-H Building: Real farm equipment welded and handmade by FFA students; decorated cakes, sewing projects, ceramics—all made by 4-H students

·         Rabbits and Poultry Barn: The real McCoy!  Cinnamon rabbits, checker giant rabbits, Bantam chickens, ducks and turkeys

·         4-H Farmyard Experience: Hands-on activities such as wool spinning and butter making, plus a petting zoo

The tours continue with a first-hand look at the Create-a-Cow projects submitted by various elementary schools in Stanislaus County.  And, the tours conclude with treats of ice cold punch and delicious snacks.

School tours are offered free of charge, but must be scheduled in advance.  Tour times are limited and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Teachers and parents interested in making a reservation for a school tour should contact Stacy Crow, tour coordinator, at 668-1333 extension 330.

The Stanislaus County Fair is now in its 91st year.  The theme of this year’s fair is “Through the Eyes of a Child.”  Last year, a record-number of family members enjoyed the fair as attendance topped 215,000 visitors.

The mission of the Stanislaus County Fair is to provide a family and community oriented experience promoting agriculture, education, entertainment and technology.
