Three
Dog Night, with Modesto-based lead guitarist,
to play
Stanislaus County Fair
Turlock—Modesto’s Michael Allsup, was the original lead guitarist when Three
Dog Night’s pop/rock sound soared to the top of
the charts and struck gold in 1971.
Three
decades later, Three
Dog Night is still touring the country and Michael
Allsup, a Modesto resident, is still playing
lead guitar.
New fans and old will enjoy the sounds of Three
Dog Night on Sunday,
August 4 on the Budweiser
Variety Free Stage.
All
concerts on this stage are included with the price of
fair admission.
Allsup
grew up in Stanislaus County, and attended Davis High
School in the early 1960’s. As a young adult, he relocated to the Los Angeles area where
he joined Three
Dog Night as the original lead guitar player.
Three
Dog Night eventually
recorded 14 gold albums, nine gold singles, and
has sold over forty million units.
Allsup,
who has attended the Stanislaus County Fair as a
visitor on several occasions, will join his fellow
band members on stage for a night fairgoers are
certain to remember.
“I’m not quite as relaxed when I play at
home,” said Allsup. “I feel a lot of pressure to
put on a good show for my friends.”
But
Allsup and
the band are not newcomers to thrilling audiences.
Throughout the early 70’s this six man band
took their music to concert halls and stadiums,
setting attendance records wherever they went.
Their platinum record, “Joy to the World,”
was number one on the charts for six consecutive weeks
in 1971.
Three
Dog Night’s other number one hits include “Mama
Told Me Not to Come,”
“Never Been To Spain,” “Black and
White,” “Shambala,” and “The Show Must Go
On.”
