Ballico
residents exhibit historical paint horses at
Stanislaus County Fair
Turlock
–As the Stanislaus County Fair exhibit deadline
approaches, two of the hundreds of exhibitors
guaranteed to enter are Brian and Diane Alves of
Ballico.
In 1519 the Spanish explorer Hernando Cortes
sailed to the North American continent to find his
fame and fortune. Along with his entourage of
conquistadors, he brought horses to help his men
travel across a new world in search of riches. He left
behind a profound legacy—the bloodstock that would
provide the foundation for a variety of unique,
distinct, American-bred horses. These spotted horses
bred with Native American mustangs and laid the
foundation for what is today the American Paint Horse
breed.
Almost 500 years later, in Stanislaus County,
you can see paint horses and learn more about this
magnificent breed at the Stanislaus County Fair!
Brian and Diane Alves, owners of Alves Paint
Horses of Ballico, will be exhibiting these grand
animals at the County Fair.
The
Fair has more than rides, shows and great food and
Alves are testimony to that!
The Fair has excellent exhibits!
The Alves have been showing their paint horses
at the Fair for over a decade.
“It’s a good place to get our horses out
there and to meet people,” said Brian Alves.
“And, it’s great for our paint horse
business, besides a lot of fun!”
The
Stanislaus County Fair offers opportunities for those
pre-kindergarten to senior citizens to exhibit their
talents in areas of livestock, horticulture,
floriculture, fine arts, crafts, photography and home
arts. Participants,
like the Alves, are eligible to win cash prizes,
ribbons and even sponsored gifts.
