Fair
guests cruise to the Stanislaus County Fair in record
numbers once again
Turlock-The
Stanislaus County Fair concluded its 10 day run and
the success can be summed up in one word-variety!
“The
entertainment was as varied as the weather,” said
Tony Leo, chief executive officer. “We opened the
fair with the Village People singing disco and closed
the fair with Tracy Byrd singing country. And, our
weather hit a high of 105 degrees on July 28, and
dropped to a low of 84 on
August 2.”
The
21 degree variance in the weather didn’t stop fair
guests from cruising to the fair, however, which this
year saluted the 30th
anniversary of American Graffiti. Attendance reached
225,744* people, the second highest attendance in more
than a decade and just a few hundred people short of
last year. “The attendance record speaks for itself,”
said Leo. “Families love the Stanislaus County Fair
and even temperature spikes didn’t keep them at
home.”
In
addition to the outstanding variety of celebrity
entertainment, Leo attributes the record-setting
attendance to the new features at the fair, including
the Stanislaus County Fair Idol competition and the
Modesto Bee/A&W Graffiti Stage where 50s groups
crooned out be-bop hits all 10 days.
But
Leo cautions that fair officials and the fair board
measure the success of the Stanislaus County Fair on
more than just the attendance figures. “Our fair
board measures our success based on input from our
guests. When our guests are happy we know we have put
on a successful fair,” shared Leo.
Plans
are already underway for the 2004 fair, which will
open on Friday, July 23 and run through August 1,
2004. The theme of the 2004 is “Say Cheese!”
The
mission of the Stanislaus County Fair is to provide a
family and community oriented experience promoting
agriculture, education, entertainment and technology.
