special food contests by June 19
Turlock—If you love to cook then savor this—there are just five
days remaining to enter the special food contests at
the Stanislaus County Fair!
Chefs and chef wannabes can select from an
extensive menu of contests to tantalize judges with
all sorts of flavors from chocolate recipes to sweet
potato pie to BBQ ribs. The carte du jour of special
contests includes:

- “Chocolate
Decadence” sponsored by Hershey Chocolate,
Oakdale
- “Homemade Salsa
Contest” sponsored by Emanuel Medical Center

Contest” sponsored by Friends of Nannette
Sherman Taylor
- “BBQ Ribs Contest”
sponsored by Beth Smith and Melinda Fannin
- “Strawberry Jam”
sponsored by Hilmar Middle School Faculty Club in
Memory of Christie Whalen Sexton
- “Sweet Potato Pie”
sponsored by Sweet Potato Council
- “All American Apple
Pie” sponsored by Dubyak Family Chiropractic,
Turlock
Each contest has rules specific to its cuisine
but the one common ingredient is that all recipes must
be homemade. Each of these contests is judged live
before an audience in the Save Mart Ag/Hort Building
during fair hours.
Exhibitor
entry forms must be received at the Fair office by 5
p.m. on June 19, 2003 or be postmarked by June 19,
2003. Handbooks
with entry forms are available at the following
Turlock locations: Turlock Library, Valley
Distributors, Cloth & Quilts and in Hilmar at
Hilmar Cheese.

Be
part of the Stanislaus County Fair by displaying your
talents and efforts and the chance to walk away with
award ribbons, cash prizes and/or prize gifts.
The
Stanislaus County Fair is now in its 92nd year.
The 2003
fair opens Friday, July 25 for a 10-day run.
The theme of this year’s fair is “The Place
to be in 2003: Saluting the 30th
Anniversary of American Graffiti.”
The
mission of the Stanislaus County Fair is to provide a
family and community oriented experience promoting
agriculture, education, entertainment and technology.
