Seasoned
community servant, Susan Azevedo, appointed to
Stanislaus County Fair Board
Turlock—Ask
Susan Azevedo what she has done to serve her community
and the answer won’t be a short one!
But her answer will conclude with her recent
appointment to the 38th District
Agricultural Association’s board of directors.
Azevedo
was appointed by Governor Gray Davis to the Stanislaus
County Fair Board last week.
She brings to the fair’s board more than 20
years of experience serving on boards of community
organizations. Presently,
Azevedo is serving on the Modesto City Council’s
public safety ad hoc committee and the Modesto
Convention & Visitors Bureau board of directors.
“My husband’s family has deep roots in the
dairy business, which is one of the reasons that we
have always enjoyed the livestock area of the
Stanislaus County Fair,” said Azevedo.
“I’m attracted to the fair’s mission to
promote agriculture, education, entertainment and
technology. Their
goal is to create a fair that has something for
everyone.”
“As a
policy setter for the Stanislaus County Fair,
Susan’s broad-based community service experience
will be an asset,” said Tony Leo, chief executive
officer of the Stanislaus County Fair.
“We welcome her to this dedicated board of
men and women.”
Azevedo’s
community service has been recognized by the
Stanislaus County Commission for Women in 1990 when
she was named an Outstanding Woman.
In addition, she received the Women Helping
Women Award in 1993 from Soroptimist International of
Modesto.
Azevedo’s
community service work includes volunteering for the
following organizations/events:
California Regional Water Quality Control
Board—Central Valley Region, Modesto Sister Cities
Committee, Modesto City Fire Fighters Cystic Fibrosis
Golf Benefit, Stanislaus Library Campaign, Haven
Women’s Center & Shelter and the National
Women’s Political Caucus.
The
Stanislaus County Fair is now in its 92nd year and
opens for its 10-day run July 25 through August 3,
2003. The
theme of this year’s fair is “The Place to be in
2003: Saluting the 30th Anniversary of
American Graffiti.”
Last year,
more than 226,000 family members enjoyed the fair as
attendance topped 226,000 visitors—the largest
attendance in the past decade.
In the fall of 2002, The
Modesto Bee readers voted the Stanislaus County
Fair their “Favorite All-Around Event” in the Bee’s
Readers’ Choice Awards!
The
mission of the Stanislaus County Fair is to provide a
family and community oriented experience promoting
agriculture, education, entertainment and technology.
