enthusiasts invited to dish it up at the Stanislaus
County Fair
Turlock—Local
cooks, get ready to serve up your most mouth-watering
recipes to win recognition and cash prizes at the 2003
Stanislaus County Fair!
Cooks can
select from an extensive menu of contests to tantalize
judges with all sorts of flavors from jam to sweet
potato pie to BBQ ribs. These special contests are
also fun for all ages from juniors right on up to
seniors, who compete against chefs of their own age.
Judges decide whose secret flavors add up to
the most irresistible and tasty morsels around!
The
Stanislaus County Fair is turning back the taste bud
clocks in its Home Arts division as it Salute’s the
30th Anniversary of American Graffiti.
And what could be more American than apple pie?
The 2003 fair will feature an All
American Apple Pie Contest sponsored by Dubyak
Chiropractic.
The
apple pie contest is sure to be popular event among
entrants for its traditional taste and its $100 grand
prize. Distinguished judges include Turlock Mayor Curt
Andre and Stanislaus County Supervisor Tom Mayfield.
To spur on the bee-bopping’ fun, red, white and blue
pom poms will be dished out to audience members. And the contest sponsor, Dr. Dubyak, will be dressed like
Uncle Sam!
The
apple pie contest is a win-win!
After the contest, the judged pies will be
donated to the United Samaritans.

contest has rules specific to its cuisine but the one
common ingredient is that all recipes must be
homemade. Each of these contests is judged live before
an audience in the Save Mart Ag/Hort Building during
fair hours.

The Stanislaus County Fair is now in its 92nd
year. The 2003 fair opens
Friday, July 25 for a 10-day run.
The theme of this year’s fair is “The Place
to be in 2003.”
Last
year, more than 226,000 family members enjoyed the
fair —the largest attendance in the past decade.
In the fall of 2002, Modesto Bee readers voted
the Stanislaus County Fair their “Favorite
All-Around Event” in the Bee’s Readers’ Choice
Awards!

family and community oriented experience promoting
agriculture, education, entertainment and technology.
