County Fair officials have booked the hot 80’s group
38 Special to open the 2004 Stanislaus County Fair!
38
Special, known for hits like “Rockin’ into the
Night,” “Hold On Loosely” and “If I’d Been
The One,” will perform on Friday, July 30, at
8:30 p.m. on the Budweiser Variety Free Stage
at the Stanislaus County Fair.
All concerts on this stage are included with
the price of fair admission.
“We are
so excited to have this hot musical sensation perform
at the Stanislaus County Fair,” said Pennie Rorex,
spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair.
“Our line up on the Variety Free Stage is
very strong and is jam-packed with award-winning
celebrity entertainment.”
Donnie Van
Zant and teenage buddy Don Barnes began what was to
become a succession of bands to kill time.
38 Special soon solidified to Van Zant (guitar
and vocals), Barnes (guitar and vocals) and four other
members. The
band is now comprised of Van Zant, Barnes, Danny
Chauncey (guitar and vocals), Larry Junstrom (Bass),
Bobby Capps (keyboard and vocals) and Gary Moffat
(drums). 38
Special was among the first five bands featured on
Music Television (MTV) and the videos were on MTV
throughout the 80’s.

Events
in the Food Maxx arena, unless specified, are ticketed
and prices are in addition to fair gate admission.
The
Stanislaus County Fair is now in its 93rd
year. The
2004 fair opens Friday, July 30 for a 10-day run.
The theme of this year’s fair is “Say
Cheese!”
Last year
more than 225,000 people enjoyed the fair. In 2002 and again in 2003, Modesto Bee readers voted
the Stanislaus County Fair their “Favorite
All-Around Event” in the Bee’s Reader’s
Choice Awards.
