Multi-platinum
“America” to perform at Stanislaus County Fair
Turlock–Stanislaus
County Fair officials are planning for another fair,
jam-packed with free entertainment, including
“America”, multi-platinum, 1970’s pop
superstars.
“America,”
known for mega-hits like “Sister Golden Hair,”
“Ventura Highway” and “Tin Man,” will perform
on the Budweiser Variety Free Stage on Saturday,
July 31, at 8 p.m. at
the Stanislaus County Fair. All
concerts on this stage are included with the price of
fair admission.
“America”
has a unique ability to combine rock and roll with
folk and country music,” said Pennie Rorex,
spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair.
“They are real crowd pleasers and will roll
out hit after hit during their awesome show.”
Dewey
Bunnel and Gerry Beckley comprise the group
“America” and began performing together in London
in 1968. They
were both the children of military men stationed in
England; the name of the group came from their shared
homesickness of their birthplace.
Since 1971, “America” has recorded more
than 17 gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums.
The
Stanislaus County Fair is now in its 93rd
year. The 2004 fair opens Friday, July 30 for a 10-day run.
The theme of this year’s fair is “Say
Cheese!”
Last
year more than 225,000 people enjoyed the fair.
In 2002 and again in 2003, Modesto Bee
readers voted the Stanislaus County Fair their
“Favorite All-Around Event” in the Bee’s
Reader’s Choice Awards.
The
mission of the Stanislaus County Fair is to provide a
family and community oriented experience promoting
agriculture, education, entertainment and technology.
