Ceres women selected for Stanislaus County Fair Idol competition

Judges have selected 10 vocalists, including Ceres’ own Raquel Rodriguez and Lyudmila Kucher, to compete for the title of 2004 Stanislaus County Fair Idol. Their fate is now in the hands of fair guests whom will decide who the winner will be.

Auditions for the Stanislaus County Fair Idol competition were held Saturday, July 17, at the fairgrounds. “We had a great turn out for this year's Idol auditions," said Janine Runnels, competition coordinator. "We had 37 very talented vocalists audition for 10 coveted positions in the competition.”

Each contestant auditioned a cappella for six qualified judges, all of who have an extensive amount of experience in the music industry. Contestants were judged on musicianship, stage presentation and overall entertainment value.

The 10 finalists, including Rodriguez and Kucher, selected for 2004 Stanislaus County Fair Idol competition are (in alphabetical order):

Finalists will compete for the grand prize of $1000, a Stanislaus County Fair Idol trophy, 8 hours of recording time with professionals, an original song written for the Idol winner, and a live radio performance on Kat Country 103.3 FM. 2nd place receives $500, 3rd place receives $250, and 4th through 10th places receive $100.

The Stanislaus County Fair Idol competition is held nightly during the fair’s 10-day run, July 30 to Aug. 8. Showtime is at 7 p.m. each night on the Black Oak Casino Stage. KAT Country 103 hosts the competition.

Beginning 30 minutes prior to each show, 500 ballots will be distributed to audience members who will become the judges for the evening.  The lowest vote recipient will not move forward in the competition, but will continue to perform each evening in the group’s opening and closing numbers. Together each evening, the 10 finalists and three runners up will perform “Swing Dancin” and “Jump, Jive and Wail”

Contestants not selected as a finalist or the runners-up received a one-night complementary pass to the Stanislaus County Fair and a gift certificate for Cold Stone Creamery.

“Be sure to come to the fair to support the finalists,” said Runnels.  “Bring banners and signs, and cheer on your favorite Idol contestant!”
