Calling
all independent junior exhibitors
Turlock
– If you raise market sheep, swine, or meat goats,
but are not a member of 4-H or FFA, you can still show
at the Stanislaus County Fair.
Independent
exhibitors (non 4-H or non FFA members), who are at
least 9 years old, or in the 4th grade by
January 1, 2004 and live within the 38th
District Agricultural Association boundaries are
eligible to compete/exhibit at the Stanislaus County
Fair. The
deadline for Independent Junior Livestock application
forms for market sheep, swine and meat goats are due
Tuesday, June 1, 2004. Registration forms are available from the livestock office.
Independents
can enter appropriate FFA or 4-H classes as long as
they meet the age or grade requirements and if that
class is not offered in any other junior area.
Independent exhibitors entering market animals
must register their entries 60 days prior to the fair
to be eligible to participate and they must provide
fair officials with:
-
Pictures
of the front view and a view of both sides of the
animal
-
A
copy of the bill of sale or cancelled check for
each animal
-
Permanent
tag/tattoo information
“The
fair welcomes all youths interested in exhibiting
their animals,” said Mark Anglin, livestock
superintendent for the Stanislaus County Fair.
“We encourage everyone meeting the
requirements for this program to exhibit at the
Stanislaus County Fair.”
All
independent junior exhibitors must have project
management records and proof of supervision available
as to the length of the project.
They must also have insurance, which is
available through the Stanislaus County Fair.
Independent junior exhibitors must also have
“on ground” supervision by a responsible adult
during the run of the 10-day fair.
Junior
livestock entry forms for market beef, market sheep,
swine and meat goats are due to the Livestock Office
at the fairgrounds before 5 p.m. on June 3.
The
Stanislaus County Fair is now in its 93rd
year. The 2004 fair opens Friday, July 30 for a 10-day run.
The theme of this year’s fair is “Say
Cheese!”
Last year
more than 225,000 people enjoyed the fair. In 2002 and again in 2003, Modesto Bee readers voted
the Stanislaus County Fair their “Favorite
All-Around Event” in the Bee’s Reader’s
Choice Awards.
The mission of the Stanislaus County Fair is to
provide a family and community oriented experience
promoting agriculture, education, entertainment and
technology. For
