REMINDER…IDOL AUDITIONS JULY 16

Turlock – You’ve got just 10 more days to warm up your voice for the Stanislaus County Fair Idol auditions.

Auditions for the 3rd Annual Stanislaus County Fair Idol competition are slated for Saturday, July 16. Auditions will be held in Building E-2 at the Stanislaus County Fair, 900 N. Broadway in Turlock. Audition registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with auditions starting promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Auditions will be judged by a minimum of five judges who are involved in the music industry in some manner. Only the first 100 contestants to register will be auditioned.

New for the 2005 competition is an increase in age eligibility. The competition is now open to vocalists between 16 and 28 years of age (previously 24 years of age), who reside in the 38th Agricultural Association, which includes all of Stanislaus County and the portion of Merced County north of the Merced River, served by Turlock Irrigation District.

Also new to the 2005 competition is the addition of guest judges during the 10 days of competition. A minimum of one guest judge per evening, experienced in the music industry, will be given a pre-determined number of votes to cast amongst the finalists as he/she deems appropriate. The pre-determined number of votes will be announced each evening of the competition. The judge’s votes will be added to the votes cast by the audience.

“The Idol competition is a wonderful experience for both the contestants and the audience who supports them each night of the fair,” said Janine Runnels, Idol competition coordinator for the Stanislaus County Fair. “The contestants have a fabulous time and the audience grows in size and enthusiasm every night.”

Another change to the 2005 competition format is scheduling. “All mandatory rehearsals and performances are scheduled on evenings and weekends this year,” said Runnels. “By eliminating weekday performances and rehearsals, we’ve made the competition more accessible to those who work a traditional weekday job.”

The complete set of rules for the Stanislaus County Fair Idol competition is available online at www.stancofair.com. From the fair’s home page, website visitors should click on the Stanislaus County Fair Idol icon.

Once again, the vocal competition will be sponsored by Black Oak Casino and hosted by KAT Country 103 FM.

The Stanislaus County Fair Idol winner will receive:

·        $1,000 cash award

·        A trip for two to Disneyland which includes a two-night stay at the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel and four (4) two-day hopper passes

·        8 hours studio recording time

·        Live radio performance of one vocal selection on KAT Country 103 Radio, on Monday, August 8, 2005

·        Stanislaus County Fair Idol trophy

The 2nd place finalist will win a $500 cash award, the 3rd place finalist will win a $250 cash award, and the 4th through 10th place finalists will win a $100 cash award.

The Stanislaus County Fair is now in its 94th year. The 2005 fair opens Friday, July 29 for a 10-day run. The theme of this year’s fair is “Tropical Nights and Midway Lights.” Last year more than 225,000 people enjoyed the fair. In 2002 and again in 2003, Modesto Bee readers voted the Stanislaus County Fair their “Favorite All-Around Event” in the Bee’s Reader’s Choice Awards.

The mission of the Stanislaus County Fair is to provide a family and community oriented experience promoting agriculture, entertainment and technology. For more information about the Stanislaus County Fair log onto www.stancofair.com.
