CALLING ALL DESTRUCTION DERBY HOPEFULS

Turlock – If crashing and smashing is your game, then sign up to compete in one two, or both Destruction Derbies at the Stanislaus County Fair!

For the third consecutive year the Stanislaus County Fair and the Turlock Lions Club will offer two car-crunching nights of Destruction Derby fun during the fair’s 10-day run.  The Destruction Derby rules and entry forms are now available at the Stanislaus County Fair office located at 900 N. Broadway in Turlock.

Destruction Derby I: Traditional Turmoil is slated for Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. Destruction Derby II: Metal Mayhem is slated for Thursday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m.  Both derbies have driver positions open, but don’t delay – these positions fill fast!

Sponsored by the Turlock Lions Club, the Destruction Derby (D-Derby) has been an ever-popular event at the Stanislaus County Fair.  “The traditional D-Derby is so popular that reserved seating tickets for the derby sold out in just 20 minutes in 2004,” said Pennie Rorex, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair.

“The Turlock Lions Club is calling all cars and all drivers,” said Carl Mikkelsen, derby coordinator for the Turlock Lions Club. “A full plate of destruction is planned for everyone who has a thirst for the flinging, exhaust billowing and the metal crunching fun of the sport of derby!”

D-Derby I – Traditional Turmoil requirements are as follows:

·        Maximum of 60 entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis

·        Drivers must live in the Stanislaus County Fair 38th Agricultural District boundaries or be a driver from a previous Turlock Lion’s Club event

·        Drivers must attend a drivers’ meeting at 6:30 p.m. on the day of the event

·        Drivers must be 18 years old or older and have a valid drivers license

D-Derby II – Metal Mayhem requirements are as follows:

·        There are no residency restrictions for D-Derby II—anyone can enter, no matter where he/she may live

·        Entries will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, up to the maximum in each event

·        Drivers must attend a drivers’ meeting at 6:30 p.m. on the day of the event

·        Drives must be at least 18 years old and have a valid drivers license

For a complete listing of the rules and regulations for each night of Destruction Derby, interested drivers should visit the Fair office for a copy of the official rules and entry forms.

The Stanislaus County Fair is now in its 94th year.  The 2005 fair opens Friday, July 29 for a 10-day run.  The theme of this year’s fair is “Tropical Nights and Midway Lights.”  Last year more than 225,000 people enjoyed the fair.  In 2002 and again in 2003, Modesto Bee readers voted the Stanislaus County Fair their “Favorite All-Around Event” in the Bee’s Reader’s Choice Awards.

The mission of the Stanislaus County Fair is to provide a family and community oriented experience promoting agriculture, entertainment and technology.  For more information about the Stanislaus County Fair log onto www.stancofair.com.
