AWARD-WINNING STANISLAUS COUNTY FAIR
Mom’s apple pie was
not the only thing winning blue ribbons at the 2005
Stanislaus County Fair. The fair itself was honored
this month with numerous awards by the Western Fairs
Association (WFA).
One thousand fair
executives throughout the United States and Canada
gathered in San Diego in early January at the annual
Western Fairs Association Convention. The four-day
event included a presentation of the WFA Annual
Achievement Awards. Among the honorees was the
Stanislaus County Fair receiving a first place award
for its exceptional media kit and a news photo,
along with two second and third place awards in
additional categories.
The Stanislaus County
Fair’s media kit is a vital tool for newspaper,
radio and television representatives and its purpose
is to assist the media in reporting accurate and
timely information about the Stanislaus County Fair.
“It's an honor to be able to covert the exciting
happenings of the award-winning Stanislaus County
Fair into an informative resource manual for the
community's media representatives," said Pennie
Rorex, publicity director for the Stanislaus County
Fair. "The development of the media guide is a team
project and this award is shared by a creative and
dedicated group of fair staff members."
A blue ribbon was also
awarded to Modesto Bee Photographer Craig
Young for his photo of “Fancy” the Jersey cow and
owner Alex Morelli of Turlock Hoof and Horns 4-H
Club. Entitled “A Fair Like no Udder,” the first
place photo put a new spin on the buzz and
excitement in the Stanislaus County Fair dairy
barns.
The fair also garnered
second place awards for its website stancofair.com
and Turlock Living Magazine’s summer 2005
edition, which was dedicated to the Stanislaus
County Fair.
The fair also was
recognized for its radio, television and newspaper
advertising, its 2005 exhibitor handbook and the
Fair Dealer cover photo contest.
The Western Fairs
Association is a professional non-profit trade
association serving the fair industry throughout the
United States and Canada – 14 states, plus Alberta
and British Columbia make up this association. The
WFA’s primary purpose is to assist in maintaining
the highest professional standards within the fair
industry through a voluntary network of individuals
and organizations.
The Stanislaus County
Fair enters its 95th year Friday, July 28
for a 10-day run. The theme of this year’s fair,
“Pig Out on Family Fun,” is sure to provide a good
time for kids and adults alike. The fair has twice
been honored with Modesto Bee Reader’s Choice
Awards for “Favorite All-Around Event.”
