livestock AUCTION and heifer sale approaching

Turlock – Come see what separates the heifers from the steers at the Stanislaus County Fair’s Replacement Heifer Sale and Junior Livestock Auction.

Local bidders will have the chance to take home some of the finest livestock in the Central Valley at the Stanislaus County Fair’s 39th Annual Replacement Heifer Sale on Aug. 4 and the 42nd Annual Junior Livestock Auction on Aug. 5.

“For some of our younger exhibitors, raising livestock is essentially their first job,’ said Tony Leo, the chief executive officer of the Stanislaus County Fair. “They work very hard throughout the year for what they will earn at the Replacement Heifer Sale or Junior Livestock Auction.”

Local dairymen and women are invited to the 39th Annual Replacement Heifer Sale on Friday, Aug. 4, immediately following the Dairy Awards Assembly which begins at 7 p.m. in the Thurman Pavilion.  The event is sponsored by County Bank.

The 2005 Annual Replacement Heifer Sale grossed $293,525 with a total of 91 replacement heifers entered. Matoson Pereira of Chatom 4-H earned $6,500 for his Supreme Champion replacement heifer and the Reserve Supreme Grand Champion, exhibited by Brent Nelson of Turlock FFA, earned $5,000.

See the county’s finest rabbits, poultry, market steer, swine, sheep and goats at the 42nd Annual Junior Livestock Auction, Saturday, Aug. 5 following the Livestock Awards Assembly in the Thurman Livestock Pavilion. The assembly begins at 8 a.m.

The 2005 Junior Livestock Auction grossed $494,735.63 with 538 animals entered in seven divisions. Joseph Amaral II’s Reserve Supreme Champion Jr. Market Steer weighed in at 1,311 pounds and sold for an impressive amount—$19,500.

With over 1,600 4-H and FFA animals entered in the 2006 Stanislaus County Fair, this year’s sale and auction are sure to produce an impressive roster of livestock.

The Stanislaus County Fair is now in its 95th year. The 2006 fair opens Friday, July 28 for a 10-day run. The theme of this year’s fair, “Pig Out on Family Fun,” is sure to provide a good time for kids and adults alike. The fair has twice been honored with Modesto Bee Reader’s Choice Awards for “Favorite All-Around Event.”

The mission of the Stanislaus County Fair is to provide a family and community oriented experience promoting agriculture, entertainment and technology.
