HOOTIE &
THE BLOWFISH CANCEL TURLOCK CONCERT
AS LEAD SINGER RUCKER RECOVERS FROM STAPH
INFECTION
Turlock.
– Staph infection in his left knee, and
three subsequent surgeries to clear the
infection, will prevent “Hootie” from
marching into Turlock for an appearance at
the Stanislaus County Fair on Aug. 2.
A written
statement prepared by the band’s management,
South Carolina-based Fishco Management,
said, “It is with great disappointment that
two-time Grammy award winning Hootie & the
Blowfish announce additional changes in
their touring plans for 2007. The summer
tour, originally postponed until July 21,
will be further delayed until Aug 10.
Darius Rucker
[Hootie] suffered a staph infection in his
left knee and has since undergone three
surgeries to clear the infection. His
post-operative rehabilitation has been
prolonged in order to allow full recovery
and will prevent him from continuing with
the tour as planned. The shows originally
booked for the month of July and early
August are being rescheduled and will be
updated on hootie.com as soon as the new
dates become available.”
Hootie & the
Blowfish were scheduled to perform on the
Budweiser Variety Free Stage on Thursday,
Aug. 2, 2007. However, because the
Stanislaus County Fair closes on Sunday,
Aug. 5, there will not be an opportunity for
the Hootie & the Blowfish concert to be
rescheduled during the 10-day run.
Stanislaus
County Fair officials were notified of the
cancellation on Monday, July 16. Officials
have been working fast and furiously with
their entertainment agent for a replacement
act for Thursday, Aug. 2.
“A
cancellation of any kind is always a
disappointment,” said Pennie Rorex,
spokesperson for the Stanislaus County
Fair. “However, a cancellation resulting
from a serious illness, such as staph
infection, is most concerning—your attention
turns to Darius and well wishes for a quick
and full recovery.”
“As soon as
the new act has been booked for Aug. 2, the
fair will make an announcement. We are
looking at a variety of genres, and at this
point, availability of the act on short
notice becomes foremost in the rescheduling
process.”
