SHEEPISH
IN THE CLASSROOM FOR
STANISLAUS COUNTY FAIR’S AG
EDUCATION PROGRAM
Teachers:
Ewe won’t want to miss this
year’s Stanislaus County Fair ag
education program.
Through the “Sharing Ag in the
Classroom Program” students will
learn about sheep this year. The
annual course of study changes
from year to year, with a
different animal selected every
year. This year, Stanislaus
County Fair officials selected
sheep for the topic of study.
The registration period for
teachers will begin April 7 for
its annual “Sharing Ag in the
Classroom” program, sponsored by
Hilmar Cheese.
“Hilmar Cheese is committed to
consumer education and their
underwriting makes it possible
for this impressive ag education
curriculum to be made available
to preschool through sixth grade
classes,” said Pennie Rorex,
spokesperson for the Stanislaus
County Fair.
Specially developed curriculum
kits will assist teachers with
instructing students about the
agricultural industry and its
importance to life, particularly
sheep. The kits include a book,
activities for the classroom and
a fabricated wooden base so that
each classroom can create a lamb
of their own.
“This is a great way
of teaching students about
agriculture and encouraging them
to have fun while creating
projects that reflect what they
have learned,” said Laura Moore,
exhibit representative for the
Stanislaus County Fair.
Cash prizes are
awarded to classes whose
creative sheep are rated
superior, good and average by
project judges. Every class
masterpiece submitted will be on
display at the 2008 Stanislaus
County Fair.
Kits are available on
a first-come, first-reserved
basis while supplies last, so
early registration is
encouraged. Teachers who want to
register for the free program or
who would like more information
can call the Stanislaus County
Fair office at (209) 668-1333.
The 2008 Stanislaus County Fair

This year’s Stanislaus County
Fair is themed “Nuts are
DINO-mite,” a salute to the
valley’s robust nut industry.
The Almond Board of California,
a major sponsor of the Fair’s
themed tribute, will be offering
free samples of almonds each day
of the Fair.
New to the 2008 Fair will be
Jurassic Journey, an 8,000
square foot life-size dinosaur
replica exhibit. The dinosaur
exhibit is sponsored by Sky Trek
Aviation and is making its
California debut at the
Stanislaus County Fair.
In
2008, the Stanislaus County Fair
was awarded a first place award
for the best Overall Children’s
Program by the Western Fairs
Association. The mission of the
Stanislaus County Fair is to
provide a family and community
oriented experience promoting
agriculture, education,
entertainment and technology.
