STANISLAUS COUNTY FAIR OPENS ON FRIDAY, JULY 16

Turlock, CA (July 13, 2010) – The county’s largest fun and exciting event is back to take a bite out of Flavors of the Valley on Friday.

The Stanislaus County Fair opens on Friday, July 16th at 5 p.m. for a 10-day run.  The 72-acre fairgrounds are located in Turlock at 900 N. Broadway. Fair officials have been working year round to plan for the Fair which is now in its 99th year.

“The Flavors of the Valley theme at this year’s Fair is a salute to our local manufacturers and processors,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “The theme will highlight food and beverages that are processed in the Central Valley.”

The Flavors of the Valley exhibit will feature local companies such as: 7UP, E&J Gallo Winery, Blue Diamond, Hilmar Cheese, Frito Lay, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, Valley Meat Company, California Grown Nut Company and Hughson Nut Company. Each day different companies will be hosting the exhibit and samples will be given out.

“Discounted tickets are on sale now through July 15th at 7 p.m.” said Alkhas.  “Each night the Fair will have concerts that are included with the price of admission as well as discounted days to accommodate our guests. We have also brought our shuttle program back to simplify parking for our guests.”

Fair guests can park and ride for FREE by taking part in the Park N’ Ride shuttle program. The locations of the Park N’ Ride shuttle stops are California State University Stanislaus (parking lots located on Crowell, off Monte Vista), and Pitman High School (parking lots on Christoffersen). This FREE service will run nightly during the 10 days of the Fair, from 4:30 p.m. to midnight with shuttles departing to and from the fairgrounds every 15 minutes. Parking at the fairgrounds will still be available for a fee of $4 per vehicle.

“An exciting, interactive, mobile game will debut at the Fair this year called SCVNGR,” said Alkhas. “We have over 850 guests already signed up to play the game, which starts on Friday, July 16th.”

SCVNGR is a scavenger mobile game that can be played with any mobile device during the 10-days of the Fair. Each correct answer will earn points and the winner with the most points at the end of the Fair will win (1) iPad and (4) Disneyland Park Hopper tickets from KAT Country 103.

The popular Rainforest Adventure will be returning to the Fair. Guests large and small can take part in the 8,000 square foot rainforest. The exhibit will be filled with animals that inhabit the rainforest like toucans, anacondas, snapping turtles, geckos, and much more. This exciting and educational experience is sponsored by Sky Trek Aviation. The Rainforest Animal Shows, sponsored by Monte Vista Small Animal Hospital, will also return for this year. The shows will run approximately 20 minutes and will feature a Capuchin monkey and all of his rainforest bird and reptile friends.

There will be five stages filled with entertainment for each night of the 10-day run. This year’s Budweiser Variety Free Stage lineup includes:
